Powis Castle Estate Mid Wales
Powis Castle Estate Mid Wales

Bronwin & Abbey have been involved in the management of the woods since 2002. The brief to ensure that the woodland enterprises are profitable year on year has been clear from the outset of our management. This instruction has been successfully achieved through a mixture of timber harvesting, adding value to the hardwood crops through the firewood business and accessing woodland grants when available. The requirement for profitability must be set alongside the demands of the shoot and the necessity to maintain the landscape and ecological benefits which are measured against the UK Woodland Assurance Scheme standards with the Powis Estate being a member of the Bronwin & Abbey UKWAS group scheme.

In addition to managing the woods we have also undertaken all the tree safety work on the Estates and been involved in the management of the trees in the park surrounding the castle.

We work closely with the resident agent and the Estate woodland staff to ensure that these important woods are sustainably managed for the long term, recognising that the Estate has been in the family’s ownership for 500 years.

POWIS CASTLE ESTATE
MID WALES

The Powis and Lymore Estates have 600 hectares of mixed woodlands in Powys and Shropshire. The woods comprise a wide mix of species and include areas of high-quality oak and Douglas fir managed to produce premium logs. There are several shoots, a resident deer population in the Welshpool woods and the Estate runs a firewood enterprise using Estate labour.
